Computing
Intent
At Manor Leas Junior Academy, our intent is to provide a high-quality computing education that equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. We want our children to be confident, responsible and safe users of technology. Using the Purple Mash Computing curriculum, we aim to build digital knowledge and skills progressively, ensuring pupils develop their understanding of computer systems, programming, data handling and digital literacy. We encourage curiosity, problem-solving and resilience, enabling pupils to become independent thinkers who can apply their learning meaningfully across the curriculum and in their future lives.
Implementation
Computing is taught through discreet weekly lessons following the structured and sequenced Purple Mash Computing scheme. This ensures clear progression in knowledge, vocabulary and skill development from Year 3 to Year 6.
Lessons include practical, hands-on experiences with a range of digital tools, coding environments and real-world applications. Online safety is embedded throughout, supported by dedicated e-safety lessons, assemblies and ongoing classroom discussions. Teachers assess through observation, questioning and outcomes within the Purple Mash platform, allowing pupils to build portfolios of work and reflect on their learning over time. Cross-curricular links are made where meaningful, enabling pupils to apply digital skills in subjects such as mathematics, English, science and the foundation curriculum.
Impact
By the time pupils leave Manor Leas Junior Academy, they will be confident and competent digital users with a secure understanding of computing concepts and vocabulary. They will be able to analyse problems, design and debug programs, and select appropriate digital tools for different tasks. Pupils will understand how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly and will be prepared for the next stage in their computing education. Most importantly, they will view themselves as capable digital citizens, ready to contribute positively to an increasingly digital world.

Home Learning and Computing
As a school we subscribe to many different learning platforms which are also available to the children at home. These include Tackling Tables, MyOn, Freckle and more. These platforms provide great content and proven outcomes for children using them inside and out of school.
